Self-Archiving Policy
Responsible dissemination without unnecessary barriers
The Journal of Biomedical & Space Sciences (JBSS) supports the principles of Open Science and encourages the responsible dissemination and preservation of scholarly research.
Authors may deposit and disseminate their work in institutional, disciplinary, governmental, or other trusted repositories, provided that the deposited copy is properly identified and includes a citation and link to the published Version of Record when available.
Permitted versions
Which manuscript versions may be deposited?
Before peer review
Submitted Version (Preprint)
Authors may deposit the original manuscript submitted to JBSS before peer review. The repository record should clearly identify the file as a preprint or submitted manuscript.
After formal acceptance
Author Accepted Manuscript
Authors may deposit the peer-reviewed manuscript accepted for publication. This version may include author revisions but does not need to contain the journal's final typesetting or production layout.
After publication
Version of Record (Published PDF)
Authors may deposit the final published version made available by JBSS. The repository copy must preserve the publication details, copyright statement, license information, and DOI.
Embargo period
No waiting period for repository deposit
JBSS does not impose an embargo on permitted versions. Preprints may be deposited before peer review, accepted manuscripts may be deposited after formal acceptance, and the Version of Record may be deposited immediately after publication.
Deposit requirements
Conditions for repository deposit
When depositing any version of an article, authors should complete the following steps so that readers can identify and locate the official publication.
Add the full citation
Include the complete bibliographic citation for the published article whenever it is available.
Include the DOI
Add the article DOI assigned through Crossref so that the repository record links to a persistent identifier.
Link to the JBSS article
Include a direct link to the official article page on the JBSS website.
Preserve integrity
Do not make unauthorized changes to the published work or remove its copyright, license, citation, or identification information.
After publication: repository records for preprints or accepted manuscripts should be updated to include the final citation, DOI, and direct link to the Version of Record.

Licensing
Repository copies must retain the article's publication information
Articles published in JBSS are distributed under the journal's licensing policy. Repository deposits must preserve the original copyright statement, license information, DOI, and citation to the Version of Record.
The official JBSS article page should remain the primary reference for the published record, corrections, updates, or notices associated with the article.
Every deposit should retain:
✓ The manuscript version label
✓ The complete bibliographic citation
✓ The article DOI and official link
✓ Copyright and license information
✓ The integrity of the deposited content
Long-term preservation
Repository deposit complements the journal's preservation strategy
Self-archiving increases redundancy, accessibility, visibility, and the long-term availability of published research. It complements, but does not replace, the journal's formal digital preservation and institutional backup procedures.
