Journal-based metrics, including the Journal Impact Factor, must not be used as surrogate measures of the quality of an individual article or researcher.

Editorial decisions are based on scientific rigor, originality, transparency, ethical standards, and relevance to the scope of the journal.
Strengthen open science

Prestige-based indicators do not determine acceptance
- Impact Factor is not an acceptance criterion.
- Journal reputation does not replace article-level evaluation.
- Payment or publication charges do not influence decisions.
- Final decisions remain grounded in peer review and editorial policy.
Responsible use of indicators
Metrics may provide context, but they do not define quality
Where quantitative indicators are presented, JBSS interprets them cautiously, transparently, and in context. No single metric can replace qualitative assessment by qualified editors and reviewers.
